Co-payment in home nursing

What is a 'co-payment'?

A co-payment is the amount you pay out-of-pocket for a visit to a doctor or other healthcare provider. This is the portion not reimbursed by your health insurance. Just like you pay a co-payment when visiting a doctor or undergoing a hospital procedure, you will now also be charged a co-payment for care provided by your home nurse.

How much is the co-payment?

the amount depends on several factors:

• Social status or entitlements: pensioner, unemployed, widow(er), entitled to increased reimbursement, etc.
• Level of care dependancy: when your care starts, your home nurse assesses your dependency level based on several parameters.
• Frequency of care: how often does the home nurse visit? Several times a day, a few times a week, weekdays or weekdays, etc.
• Type of care received: the government sets different co-payments for different types of care. For example: wound care and injections have different amounts.

This means the co-payment amount will vary from patient to patient and from month to month.

Patient protection

Patients are protected by the maximum billing system (MAF). Once you reach this limit, your health insurance fund automatically reimburses your co-payment.

Additionally, nearly half of our patients are entitled to increased reimbursement. 99% of patients with this preferential status will pay no more than €10 per month.

In some cases, your (hospitalization) insurance covers the co-payment you have made. Please contact your insurer for more information.

Is the co-payment the same everywhere?

The rates are set by the government and are the same for everyone. So, care from Wit-Gele Kruis will not be more expensive or cheaper than from any other home nursing organization or independent nurse who collects co-payments.
